Documents certifying knowledge of the English language

If you want to study in the English language, you should hold one of the international certificates:

  1. a certificate of completion of secondary education abroad where classes were conducted in the same foreign language which will be the language of instruction at the study programme in the Republic of Poland;
  2. a diploma of completion of a 1st or 2nd cycle study programme in the Republic of Poland or abroad in philology in a foreign language or in applied linguistics if the number of hours of practical foreign language instruction during the studies, confirmed by the diploma supplement or a certificate amounted to at least 500 – with reference to that foreign language;
  3. a Polish secondary school leaving certificate (świadectwo dojrzałości) with a passing grade in an extended-level language exam with a score of at least 60%;
  4. an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma;
  5. European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma;
  6. a certificate confirming entry in the register of sworn translators;
  7. certificates and diplomas confirming proficiency in foreign languages at the following levels, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe:
    • certificates and diplomas issued by institutions affiliated with the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) – levels ALTE Level 3 (B2), ALTE Level 4 (C1), ALTE Level 5 (C2), including in particular the following certificates:
      • B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency, B2 Business Vantage, C1 Business Higher, Certificate in English for International Business and Trade (CEIBT)
      • Trinity College London: ESOL Skills for Life – B2 (Level 1), C1 (Level 2); Integrated Skills in English (ISE) – B2 (ISE II), C1 (ISE III), C2 (ISE IV)
      • telc GmbH, WBT Weiterbildungs-Testsysteme GmbH – including in particular the following certificates: B2 Certificate in English – advantage, B2 Certificate in English for Business Purposes – advantage, Certificate in English for Technical Purposes (B2), telc English B2, telc English B2 Business, telc English B2-C1 Business, telc English B2 Technical, telc English B2–C1 University, telc English C1; certificates of the following institutions:
      • Educational Testing Service (ETS) – including in particular: Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL – minimum of 87 pts in the Internet-Based Test (IBT) version; Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) – minimum of 70 pts; Test de Français International (TFI) – minimum 605 points,
      • European Consortium for the Certificate of Attainment in Modern Languages (ECL) – minimum at the B2 level,
      • City & Guilds, City & Guilds Pitman Qualifications, Pitman Qualifications Institute – including in particular the following certificates: English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) – First Class Pass at Intermediate Level, Higher Intermediate Level, Advanced Level; International English for Speakers of Other Languages (IESOL) – levels: Communicator, Expert, Mastery; City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in ESOL International (reading, writing, and listening) – Communicator (B2); City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in ESOL International (reading, writing, and listening) Expert (C1); City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in ESOL International (reading, writing, and listening) Mastery (C2); Spoken English Test (SET) for Business – Stage B level Communicator, Stage C level Expert, Stage C level Mastery; English for Business Communications (EBC) – Level 2, Level 3; English for Office Skills (EOS) – Level 2,
      • Edexcel, Pearson Language Tests, Pearson Language Assessments – including in particular the following certificates: London Tests of English – London Tests of English – Level 3 (Edexcel Level 1 Certificate in ESOL International); London Tests of English, Level 4 (Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in ESOL International); London Tests of English, Level 5 (Edexcel Level 3 Certificate in ESOL International),
      • Education Development International (EDI), London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations Board – including in particular the following certificates: London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations Board (LCCI) – English for Business – Level 2, English for Business – Level 3, English for Business – Level 4; London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations Board (LCCI) – Foundation Certificate for Teachers of Business English (FTBE); London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations Board (LCCI) – English for Tourism – Level 2 – the Pass with Credit level, the Pass with Distinction level,
      • University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council, IDP IELTS Australia – including in particular the following certificates: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – score above 6 pts,
      • Coordination Council for Foreign Language Teaching and Language Proficiency Certification of the University of Warsaw – level B2, C1, C2;
  8. a certificate confirming foreign language proficiency issued by a higher education institution that is:
    • approved by the minister responsible for internal affairs for the needs of admitting foreigners wishing to undertake or continue studies, in accordance with Article 144(4) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on foreign nationals, or
    • not subject to approval under Article 144(5) of the same Act and with respect to which no decision prohibiting the admission of foreign nationals has been issued, as referred to in Article 144a(1)
      – following administration of an examination;
  9. a certificate issued by an institution that, at the time of issuance, was a member of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) –levels: ALTE Level 3 (B2), ALTE Level 4 (C1), ALTE Level 5 (C2);
  10. a certificate issued by the CUT Foreign Languages Centre (FLC) specifying proficiency in English equivalent to level B2.
    • The Foreign Languages Centre issues a certificate specifying English language proficiency equivalent to level B2 according to the following rules:
      • the FLC organizes language competency exams for foreign nationals – candidates for study programmes in English. The exam consists of a written part (listening, reading, grammatical-lexical part) and an oral part (testing communicative skills). Having passed the exam, the candidate will receive a certificate specifying proficiency in English corresponding to level B2,
      • the exam is administered online, in real-time, in the presence of two examiners,
      • the exam takes place five times a year: between 16 and 22 January, between 7 and 13 February, between 20 and 25 May, between 23 and 30 June, between 16 and 22 August, and between 20 and 25 November; applications for the exam are accepted until 15 January, 15 May, 22 June, 15 August, or 15 November; exam result certificates are issued by 24 January, 31 May, 5 July, 24 August, and 30 November, respectively
      • the fee of 220 PLN or 50 EUR for administration of the competency exam and issuing the certificate must be transferred to one of the Cracow University of Technology accounts:

      • The payment title should read as follows: SJO – J.ANG EGZ – candidate’s last name, first name. The condition necessary to be admitted to the competency exam is sending a scan of the payment receipt to o-3@pk.edu.pl and iro@pk.edu.pl and having it credited to one of the above CUT accounts before 16 January, 7 February, 20 May, 23 June, 16 August, or 20 November, respectively.
      • before making the payment referred to in point 4, the candidate is required to send an email to the CUT International Relations Office to inform them about the intent to take the English competency exam at CUT FLC.
